Champagne and Duff Duff'ers

24 floors up, looking out over the river and the casino, Race Day is upon us and most of the people in the state have the day off. Those of us (13 out of 150) who are working today are having a good time. Champagne and chicken for lunch, which is apparantly the "thing to do" on race day for lunch. The strip-club rooftop bar is full of what one staffer called 'duff duff's', as in people who rave. Funny stuff. It's nice and calm here today, no phones ringing, no stupid questions, no annoying meetings. In half an hour we are all going to congregate around the big screen t.v. in the lunch room for more champagne accompanied by a civilized platter of cheese and crackers. Excellent. Who said working on Melbourne Cup Day would suck?!
